2017 State Forestry Champions

The Bleckley County High School FFA Forestry Teams recently won a state championship in the State FFA Forestry Field Day.  The event was held at the Emmanuel County Recreation Department in Swainsboro on April 20th.

As the state winning senior team, four students will advance to national competition held in conjunction with the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana in October. The Team members consisted of Blake Bohannon-1st Tree ID, Evan Thomas and Duncan Veal -1st in Forest Management, Danielle Bowen-1st in Ocular Estimation, Tucker Felkins-1st in Reforestation, Ben DeLoach-1st Sawtimber Estimation, LeAnn Hearn-1st in Tree Disorders, Jacob Smith-3rd in Land Measurement, Mason Kirkpatrick,  Hunter Harper,and Chase Floyd.

The Forestry Career Development Event tests participants’ knowledge and skills in various aspects of the industry. The events include tree identification, forest disorders, cord volume estimation, board foot volume estimation, hand compass, land measurement, timber stand improvement, ocular estimation, reforestation and forest management.
