Bleckley County FFA Team Wins Area Junior Agricultural Mechanics Career Development Event

Four Bleckley County FFA members recently place first in the Area 3 FFA Junior Agricultural Mechanics Career Development Event. The event was held at Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley on December 8, 2015. Team members were Louie Lumley, Joni Lumley, Lizzy Parks, and Beau Williams.

Louie Lumley was the high individual, Beau placed 2nd overall, Lizzy placed 3rd overall, and Joni placed 4th overall in this CDE.

The purpose of the Jr. Agricultural Mechanics Career Development Event is to provide an opportunity for students in grades 6-9 to practice those skills and abilities developed as a regular part of the agricultural education curriculum. The CDE is designed as an introductory event that will provide experience in agricultural mechanics and assess the knowledge gained from classroom instruction. Each team member had to measure and mark boards and compete in a tool identification component.

Bleckley County FFA Students Compete at ABAC State CDE Day

The Bleckley County FFA Environmental and Natural Resources Senior Team, Junior Environmental and Natural Resource team, and our FFA Quiz participant all competed at the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College CDE Day on December 2nd, 2016 in Tifton.

Jr Environmental Natural Resources team Emmi Coleman, Sherie Perez, Rebecca Arnold, Hunter Harper

The Senior ENR team placed 6th at the State FFA CDE Day. Team members consisted of Wassim El-Jeaid, Carrington Anderson, Eli Phinazee, and Ben DeLoach. The Junior ENR team placed 3rd in the State Junior ENR CDE. Team members consisted of Sherie Perez, Rebecca Arnold, Hunter Harper, and Emmi Coleman.

Powell Wins State FFA Floral Design CDE

Bleckley County High School FFA member Hadden Powell recently won the State FFA Floral Design Career Development Event. The event was held at the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College CDE Day on December 2nd, 2016 in Tifton.

Hadden Powell won the state FFA Floral Design Championship!

The Floral Design Career Development Event allows students to utilize the principles and elements of design.  Each student makes two floral arrangements and answers questions by a panel of judges concerning floral design principles.  Students use the principles of balance, proportion and scale, focal point, emphasis, rhythm, harmony and unity, and the technique of flower placement to create their designs.

Doyle Floyd and Walt Parks are the Bleckley County High School FFA advisors. The FFA Floral Design Career Development Event is sponsored by the Georgia State Association as a special project of the Georgia FFA Foundation.

Bleckley County FFA Sr. and Jr. Teams Compete at State Land Judging CDE

The Bleckley County FFA Senior Land Judging Team placed 2nd at the State FFA Land Judging Career Development Event that was held at Fort Valley State University on October 29, 2016.

LR-Evan Thomas, Tucker Felkins, Blake Bohannon, & Jacob Smith

Senior Team members were Tucker Felkins, Blake Bohannon, Evan Thomas, and Jacob Smith. Tucker Felkins was the high individual in the state and Evan Thomas was the third high individual.

 

 

The junior team consisting of Louie Lumley, Lizzy Parks, Jayshon Gardner, and Hunter Harper placed fifth with Lizzy Parks earning high individual honors.

The Land Judging Career Development Event provides students the opportunity to determine land classification, use and treatment practices for selected sites.  The students must consider topsoil texture and thickness, effective depth, permeability of subsoil, slope, erosion, and drainage and land capability.

Bleckley County FFA Members Compete at the National FFA Convention

Eight individuals recently represented the Bleckley County FFA by competing at the National FFA convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

LR-Jacob Smith, Blake Bohannon, Tucker Felkins, Evan Thomas, Doyle Floyd

Evan Thomas, Jacob Smith, Tucker Felkins, and Blake Bohannon placed fifth in the nation in the Environmental Natural Resources CDE.

 

Members Cale Floyd, Henry Richardson, Jeff Miller and Adam Parker placed 13th in the nation in the Agricultural Technology and Mechanical Systems CDE.

The events were held at the Indianapolis Convention Center, Lucas Oil Stadium and the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

 

Drawing over 65,000 FFA members from all over the United States of America, the convention the convention had contests, Nine general sessions, a trade show and career show.

Also representing the Bleckley County FFA, John Austin Stewart and Tyler Brack were awarded the highest honor in the FFA, the American FFA Degree.
